The black clouds chocked everyone within 5 miles of the house. Dr.Parnell’s family stood in utter amazement.
His son held tight to his freezing mother, wondering why she slept in such a thin nightgown (a woman of her age). The clearing in the side yard caught his glance and he drifted back to a place in time long ago.
“You’re gonna have to throw more accurately than that if you’re gonna pitch for the Cubs,” Dr. Parnell joked.
“Yeah, well who’d pitch for ’em anyway?” he chirped back, just to annoy his father.
Coughing hard, he strained to see the rest of his childhood burn before him.
