#4 Poached Pears in Caramel Sauce


  • 2 pears
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 TBSP ground ginger
  • 1 TBSP unsalted butter

* You can multiply for a larger quantity.


Peel the pears, trim the top and bottom, cut in half and using a melon baller remove the seeds

Put the brown sugar, ginger and butter in a crockpot. Toss the pears with the sugar mixture then place them cut side down in the crock pot.

Cook on High for 2 hours or until they slice easily with a knife. Mine were ready in exactly two hours.

1 hour in spoon the melted sugar mixture over the pears.



When the pears are ready carefully remove them with a slotted spoon and plate them. Then take the excess melted sugar mixture and pour it into a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and let reduce until slightly thick, shaking the pan constantly. When ready spoon over pears.

I love these. They were incredibly easy to make and really tasty. Dan wasn’t as sure about them. He’d never had a pear before!
